Season 2005 / 2006
Thursday 11th May 2006 - Finals Night
Well the end of the season has arrived and around 90 players and supporters turned up at the Rugby Club for the Finals and presentation. The evening was kicked off with the semi-finals of the Doubles competition, the draw pitched Larry Andrews and Simon Pollard (Rugby Club) against Ben Lambourne and John Dougherty (Reef Bar) and on the other table Peter James and Jeremy Ward (Rugby Club) took on Christian Fitzgerald and Richard Thompson (Cornish Arms 'A'). The games were over the best of 3 frames and both tables produced some classy and cagey play, with Simon and Larry winning on one table and Christian and Richard winning on the other after a very close game indeed.
We then moved on to the 5 Man Team semi-finals and the draw threw together last years League Champions The Croft against this years League Champions The Cornish Arms 'B', a highly competitive match at the best of times. The second table saw the Sheaf of Wheat playing this years League Runners up the Cornish Arms 'A', both games were competitive to say the least with many cheers and shouts from both tables. The Cornish Arms 'A' took the first frame in their game and then the Sheaf of Wheat took the 2nd, 3rd and 4th to win the game 3 - 1, a slighly surprising but well deserved victory for the Sheaf. On the other table saw the Cornish Arms 'B' win the first two very close frames to go into a 2 - 0 lead, the Croft then dug deep and fought back to make it 2 - 2 in another two close frames finally in a very tense last frame the Cornish Arms 'B' came up with the goods to go through to the Final.
Finally came the singles Knockout with Ian Noall (Pool Club 'B') and Ian Hodgkinson (The Croft) drawn together and on the other table Richard Astle (The Croft) and Shane Eddy (Cornish Arms 'B'). Both games were played over 3 frames and again were very competitive and played in a fine spirit with Ian Hodgkinson coming through in a close game against Ian Noall. On the other table this years most Singles Wins Champion Richard Astle was having a rough time of it against Shane Eddy finding himself on the back foot from the word go, but showed all his battling qualities and made a real game of it. In the end though Shane just had to much for him on the night and went through to play Richard's team mate Ian Hodgkinson in the Final.
We then moved onto the first of the Finals the 5 Man Team with the Sheaf of Wheat playing last years winners the Cornish Arms'B'. Despite a spirited effort the Sheaf couldn't stop the Cornish from winning 3 - 0 and retaining their Knockout title, and so the first Knockout competition was decided.
Then came the Doubles with last years defending Champions Simon Pollard and Larry Andrews (Rugby Club) against Christian Fitzgerald and Richard Thompson (Cornish Arms 'A'). Once again a game of very high standards with both teams getting the upper hand at different points in the match, eventually Simon and Larry managed to win the third frame and retain their title for a 2nd year.
The final of the singles saw a titanic struggle over 5 frames of very cagey and highly skilled pool with Shane taking the first frame and Ian countering and winning the 2nd, then shane took the lead winning the third . Then we had a frame so cagey it went to a re rack, and from the resulting break Ian was unlucky to miss a clearance on the 8 ball and then went on, after escaping from some well played snookers, to win and draw the game 2 - 2. So it was down a one frame thriller that saw more sparkling pool and Ian playing to the crowd after some important snooker escapes, it was finally ended with a solid bottom left corner pot on the black by Ian. A great final to finish the season could we ask for more!!!
Well there was more the presentations which saw the usual scramble for the booze in the raffle before the presentation of the 8 Ball Clearance certificates, 26 of them this year. The winner of the Speed Pool competition that Chairman Dirk Lengton was running on the third table was Duncan Halliday (Cornish Arms 'A') with a clearance in only 17 shots a good effort considering the amount of booze that had been consumed by all present. Then the presentations and many handshakes and congratulations as the trophies were presented a extremely good night in my opinion and hopefully enjoyed by all who attended and for those of you who didn't make it ... you'll have to try harder next season to join in the fun.
The above account is as close to the facts as the Stella will allow me to recall so if any parts don't sound absolutely correct you'll have to take my word for it and be more responsible, pay more attention to what's going on and of course drink less (well maybe not the last one)
Performance of the Week : Andy Livermore (League Secretary)
Thursday 27th April 2006
Well the final week has come and with only the top two able to win the League the Cornish Arms 'A' needed to win by 5 points more than the Cornish Arms 'B' in order to snatch the title from them in the last week, unfortunately they could only manage a 6 - 6 draw with the Pool Club 'A'. In any case the Cornish Arms 'B' went away to the Howards Hotel and took matters into their own hands winning 10 - 2 ensuring that they couldn't be beaten and giving themselves an eight point winning margin in the league. In the battle for 3rd last years champions the Croft managed to stay ahead of the three teams chasing them by winning against the Sheaf of Wheat 7 - 5 . Only three points seperated the next 3 teams , the Rugby Club, Halsetown Inn and Pool Club 'B' finishing 4th, 5th and 6th, with the Rugby Club winning 11 - 1 against the Queens Hotel they jumped from 6th to 4th in one week. The Halsetown Inn managed a 6 - 6 win against the Golden Lion 'B' to stay 5th and the Pool Club 'B' had a disappointing 6 - 6 draw at home to the British Legion. The Reef Bar also had a cracking result in the last week a 10 - 2 win against the Engine Inn, the last game saw the Three Ferrets play the Golden Lion 'A', the Golden Lion 'A' won 7 - 5 meaning both teams ended up on 152 points. In the most wins competitions Richard Astle won both his singles and doubles games ensuring 1st place in both the Singles Wins and Overall Wins competition with Brian Ashwin (Lion 'B') and Dave Hart (Cornish 'B') finishing 2nd and 3rd in both competitions.
Performance of the Week : Cornish Arms 'B'
Thursday 20th April 2006
Well with one week to go its become a two horse race between the Cornish Arms 'B' and the Cornish Arms 'A'. The Cornish 'B' went away to the British Legion and came away with a very healthy 9 - 3 win , while the Cornish 'A' stayed at home and kept the pressure on with an equally good 8 - 4 win over the Reef Bar. The Croft rediscovered their form although 6 weeks to late with a very good 10 - 2 victory against the 3 Ferrets, with Richard Astle winning and staying one game ahead of the field in the singles wins competition. The Pool Club 'B' went away to the Howards and could only manage a 6 - 6 draw with Dan Hudson the winner of the Doubles wins competition losing his first doubles game for 9 weeks, the Halsetown Inn and the Rugby Club also managed a 6 - 6 at the Halsetown with Adam Hart getting an 8 Ball in the doubles (quite a feat in the cramp Halsetown Inn). The Sheaf of Wheat enjoyed a good 8 - 4 win over the Golden Lion 'A' and the Golden Lion 'B' beat the bottom of the table Queens Hotel 9 - 3, unfortunately the Pool Club 'A' had no game this week due to the Engine Inn not being able to field a side on Thursday night. With one game to go Richard Astle of the Croft is in pole position to retain the Most Singles Wins and only needs to win one game to retain the Most Wins Overall but with Dave Hart (Cornish 'B') and Brian Ashwin (Lion 'B') breathing down his neck Richard can ill afford a slip up.
Performance of the Week : The Croft
Thursday 13th April 2006
Sorry for the late update this week but Easter threw a bit of a spanner in the works, anyway this week saw the Cornish Arms 'A' keep the pressure on the Cornish Arms 'B' with a very impressive 10 - 2 win away at the Engine Inn. The Cornish Arms 'B' managed to do enough to keep them at arms length with an equally impressive 9 - 3 against the in form Pool club 'B, who have been slowly creeping up on the top teams over the last few weeks. The Croft once again failed to impress only drawing 6 - 6 with Golden Lion 'A' but this was enough to put them back into third albeit 10 points behind the Cornish Arms 'A'. The Reef Bar and Pool Club 'A' managed a draw in their match this week and the British legion came away from the Howards Hotel with a narrow 7 - 5 win. The Rugby Club also had a narrow 7 - 5 win over the Golden Lion 'B' but the 3 Ferrets managed a good 8 - 4 win over the Sheaf of Wheat. Unfortunately the Queens Hotel couldn't manage to raise a side this week for their game against the Halsetown Inn who get an average 9 - 0 victory. Finally Congratulatons to Dan Hudson who tied up the Most Doubles Wins this week with a three game lead and only two games to play he can't be caught now, an especially good result as he and Josh Chandler were the only doubles to win for the Pool Club 'B' in their game againdt the Cornish Arms 'B'
Performance of the Week : Dan Hudson (Pool Club 'B')
Thursday 6th April 2006
Well as the season comes to an end the results are getting more unpredictable by the week which is now making this year the closest and most exciting finish for a number of years. With only 10 points between the top 4 teams and a possible 36 to play for any one of the top 4 could still snatch the title with 3 good results and a bit of luck, as I said a very close and exciting finish to this season. With the Cornish Arms 'B' losing to the Halsetown Inn 7 - 5 the teams behind had a chance to close the gap, with 2nd place Cornish Arms 'A' playing the 3rd place Croft it was all to play for and the Cornish Arms 'A' came out on top of a very close and competitive game, this now means that the Croft's recent bad form has seen them slip to 4th place . The Pool Club 'B' had a cracking 10 - 2 victory away at bottom side The Queens which has catapulted them into 3rd place and outside contenders for the League . With the Rugby Club winning 9 - 3 against the Legion and the Sheaf of Wheat beating the Pool Club 'A' by the same 9 - 3 score the teams in the pack just behind the top 4 are also closing up, and with the Reef Bar beating the 3 Ferrets 8 - 4 six of the top eight teams have won this week. The two remaining games saw the Howards have a very good win away from home 8 -4 against the Golden Lion 'B' in which singles wins leader Brian Ashwin lost meaning that Richard Astle (Croft) now takes over with 22 wins from 27 games and with 4 players now on 21 wins right behind him no one can afford a slip up. The final game of the week saw the Golden Lion 'A' win narrowly 7 - 5 over the Engine Inn.
Performance of the Week : Pool Club 'B'
Thursday 30th March 2006
After last week the Cornish Arms 'B' bounced back with an 11 -1 victory over the Queens Hotel with only Foxy losing in the singles, with the second place Cornish Arms 'A' winning 9 - 3 against the Golden Lion 'A' the gap at the top is now 6 points with last years defending League Champions the Croft third. The Croft only managaed a 6 - 6 draw with the Reef Bar who won all 4 doubles games to draw level, it now looks with only 4 games to play that this years title is between the 2 Cornish Arms teams. The Pool Club 'B' are keeping the pressure on in fourth with a comfortable 8 - 4 victory over the Golden Lion 'B', with leading singles wins player Brian Ashwin losing to Ian Noall. Also Dan Hudson of the Pool Club 'B' kept his impressive doubles wins record going taking his wins to 20, with only 4 games to go he now finds himself 3 games ahead and could win the Most Doubles wins next week with a win in the game against the struggling Queens Hotel. The Rugby Club played host to the Howards Hotel and managed a tight 7 - 5 victory as did the Sheaf of Wheat who had the same score against the Engine Inn. In the two remaining games the 3 Ferrets fought back from 6 - 2 down to lose narrowly 7 - 5 to the Pool Club 'A' and the Halsetown Inn had to win the last doubles to secure a 7 - 5 win over the British Legion.
Performance of the Week : Reef Bar
Thursday 23rd March 2006
Well sorry for the late update this week had a touch of the ol bird flu so had to stay at home and roost for a bit. Anyway to the job in hand, If your connected to the Cornish 'A' its been a hell of a week after managing a 10 - 2 victory over the Sheaf of Wheat they now find themselves in 2nd just 4 points behind the Cornish 'B'. This is mainly due to the Cornish 'B' losing 8 - 4 away to the Golden Lion 'B' and from reports I've received it was a well deserved victory, also The Croft were beaten at home 7 - 5 by the Pool Club 'A' who again fully deserved their victory. The 4th placed Pool Club 'B' played the Rugby Club and in a very tight game they drew 6 - 6, and the 5th placed Halsetown Inn were held to a 6 - 6 draw away from home by the Howards Hotel. Of the remaining games the Reef Bar managed a good 8 - 4 victory against the Golden Lion 'A' , with the Legion losing 7 - 5 to the Queens Hotel and the 3 Ferrets drawing 6 - 6 with the Engine Inn everything is really closing up. Only 5 weeks left to play and some really intresting fixtures to play, this could be the closest finish to the League for years.
Performance of the Week : Cornish Ams 'A'
Thursday 16th March 2006
Well a real closely fought week with 6 of the 8 games finishing 7 - 5 and one 6 - 6, the pressure seems to be really on at the moment. Starting with the top of the League the Cornish Arms 'B' had a real fight on their hands against the Rugby Club after going 6 - 2 down in the singles they fought their way back to a very good 6 - 6, the Croft again failed to gain any real ground on them in their game against the Engine Inn as the Engine held them to a 7 - 5 victory. The third place side the Cornish Arms 'A' could only manage a 7 - 5 win away at the 3 Ferrets but did mange to win all the doubles games while doing this and the fourth placed Pool Club'B' also managed a 7 - 5 away win against the fifth placed Halsetown Inn. The other results saw the 7th placed Sheaf of Wheat win 7 - 5 against the 8th placed Reef Bar (there's a bit of a theme developing here) and both the Golden Lion 'A' & 'B' sides manged 7 - 5 victories aginst the Pool Club 'A' and British Legion. In the remaining game the Howards Hotel had a storming 10 - 2 away victory against the Queens Hotel. In the battle for the most singles wins Brian Ashwin (Golden Lion 'B') has now moved out in front on his own with 20 wins, with Duncan Halliday (Cornish Arms 'A') moving into 2nd after Richard Astle (The Croft) lost against Jude Snoxall of the Engine Inn, with only 3 of the top ten players in the singles losing this competition is geting very tight. In the doubles competition Dan Hudson (Pool Club 'B') leads the way with 18 wins being followed closely by Richard Astle (The Croft) on 17 then Jeff Robinson (Pool Club 'B'), Karl Chambers (Sheaf of Wheat) and Scott Hudson (Pool Club 'B') all on 16. In the overall competition Richard Astle (The Croft) leads by 2 from Dave Hart (Cornish Arms 'B') followed closely by Brian Ashwin (Golden Lion 'B') and Andy Livermore (The Croft).
Performance of the Week : The Cornish Arms 'B'
Thursday 9th March 2006
Some strange results this week the 3 Ferrets had a stunning 8 - 4 victory against the league leaders the Cornish Arms 'B' , although the Cornish were missing a couple of their first choice players it was still an excellent performance by the 3 Ferrets. The Pool Club 'A' also had a surprising 9 - 3 win against the in form Rugby Club and according to eye witness reports Larry was tripping over his bottom lip by the end of the singles, both results were a surprise but as we have seen before anything can happen on a Pool table. The Sheaf of Wheat had a solid 10 - 2 victory against the British Legion with Martin Peters clearing the table in his singles for an 8 Ball, also the Howards Hotel had a good 7 - 5 away win against the Golden Lion 'A' . The Golden Lion 'B' and the Halsetown Inn also had good away wins, the Lion beating the Reef Bar 7 - 5 and the Halsetown beating the Engine 8 - 4, just a quick mention for Andi richards who won her first singles game this season on her 21st attempt!! The Cornish Arms 'A' continued their good form of late by beating the Queens Hotel 8 -4 which has now moved them into 3rd place in the league, the Pool club 'B' managed to win al 4 doubles to pull back to 6 - 6 against the Croft who had raced to a 6 - 2 lead in the singles.
Performance of the Week : 3 Ferrets
Thursday 2nd March 2006
This week was a good week for the Cornish Arms with both their 'A' and 'B' teams winning 10 - 2 against the Engine Inn and British Legion respectively, the Pool Club 'B' also had a very good 10 -2 win against the Pool Club 'A'. The Rugby Club won 9 - 3 against the Golden Lion 'A' and the Croft had to dig deep and win the last 6 games to win 7 - 5 at home against the Halsetown Inn. This means with 8 matches to play the Cornish Arms 'B' are 9 points in front of The Croft in second and there are only 8 points separating the Croft and Rugby Club in sixth, no one can afford to slip up otherwise they could find themselves sliding several places in one week. In the rest of the games this week the Golden Lion 'B' won the last two doubles against the Sheaf of Wheat to win 7 -5, The Ferrets lost narrowly to the Queens Hotel 7 - 5 and the Reef Bar beat the Howards Hotel by the same score of 7 - 5. There were 8 Balls this week by Eddie Hanks of The Croft and Brian Ashwin of the Golden Lion 'B'.
Performance of the Week : The Croft
Thursday 23rd Feburary 2006
This week saw the top of the table clash between The Croft and The Cornish Arms 'B' , and what a clash it turned out to be. The opening game between Jeremy Gaylord (Cornish) and Andy Livermore (Croft) really set the tone for the night with a pulsating thrill a second feast of Pool that Andy managed to win with a stunning 3 ball clearance. The rest of the evening continued in this fashion with the Croft taking an early 2-1 lead then Dave Hart (Cornish) and Richard Astle (Croft) played probably the best game of the night which Richard just shaded to give the Croft a 3 - 1 lead, this meant that both Richard and Dave now tie at the top of the most singles wins with 17 each. The cornish then took control winning the next 4 games to lead 5 -3 at the end of the singles, the Croft then fought back taking the first 2 doubles only to end up losing the last 2 doubles this meant the Cornish Arms 'B' won 7 - 5. In the other games played this week the Cornish Arms 'A' managed another stunning 11 - 1 win over the Golden Lion 'B' meaning that they have only dropped one frame over the last 2 weeks. The Howards Hotel also managed a excellent 8 - 4 win against the Sheaf of Wheat especially because they lost 12 - 0 the week before against the Cornish Arms 'A' , the Engine inn also managed a good 9 - 3 win over the bottom of the table Queens Hotel. The 3 Ferrets impressed again with an 9 - 3 win at home against the British Legion , the Golden Lion 'A' fought back well against the Pool Club 'B' to earn a 6 -6 this was after losing the first 3 singles. The Pool Club 'A' managed a 6 -6 against the out of form Halsetown Inn and the Reef Bar had to win their last 3 doubles to stop the Rugby Club winning by more than 7 - 5.
Perfrmance of the Week : Richard Astle (Croft)
Thursday 16th Feburary 2006
The Cornish Arms 'A' had a stunning 12 - 0 victory away from home against the Howards Hotel this week to prove that they can win by more than 7 -5. The Cornish Arms 'B' won 8 - 4 against the Pool Club 'A' in which Dave Hart had to clear the table to win after Lee Tacagni had missed an 8 Ball on the black, and according to reports it was a brilliant clearance. The Croft kept the pressure on the Cornish Arms 'B' by winning 9 - 3 away at the Queens Hotel and The Halsetown bounced back from their recent poor form with an 8 - 4 win against the Golden Lion 'A'. The Rugby Club had to win their last 3 doubles to draw with the Sheaf of Wheat in a very tight game in which Brin jenkins and Jonathan Peters both lost their singles after an impressive 7 week run of wins. The Reef Bar won the last 2 doubles against the Pool club 'B' to win 7 - 5 in a very local derby ( about 30 Feet seperate the two venues ). At the bottom of the League The Golden Lion 'B' won 7 - 5 against the 3 Ferrets with Paul Beadnell getting an 8 Ball in the singles, and with the British Legion winning 8 - 4 against the Engine Inn being the only other team in the bottom 8 to win there are now only 12 points separating the 9th to 15th placed teams
Performance of the Week : Cornish Arms 'A'
Thursday 9th Februrary 2006
The Cornish Arms 'B' cemented their position at the top of the League this week with a convincing 9 - 3 victory away against the Golden Lion 'A' , in which they lead 7 - 1 after the singles. The Rugby Club continued their impressive form of the last few weeks beating the Cornish Arms 'A' 8 - 4 also away from home unlike the Halsetown Inn who lost for the 3rd week running 7 - 5 at the Reef bar. With the Croft winning 8 - 4 against the British Legion the Halsetown Inn have now slipped to 3rd in the League only 1 point in front of the Pool Club 'B' who just pipped the Sheaf of Wheat to a 7 - 5 victory. At The bottom of the table the 3 Ferrets had an impressive 8 - 4 win over the Howards Hotel, the first win for the 3 Ferrets in 9 weeks and with no one in the bottom 6 teams winning they have now closed the gap on all of the teams above them. Chris Worrall of the Reef Bar was the only player this week to have an 8 ball clearance in his doubles game against the Halsetown.
Performance of the Week : 3 Ferrets
Thursday 2nd Feburary 2006
Some strong performances this week from the mid table teams who managed to take points off of the top teams. The Sheaf of Wheat had a somewhat surprising 9 - 3 result against the high flying Halsetown Inn, with Martin Peters inflictinga third straight defeat on Stuart Trevorrow and making it a 6 - 2 lead after the singles. The Reef Bar managed to shake off their eractic form and push the Cornish Arms 'B' close losing narrowly 7 - 5 at the Cornish Arms, while the Cornish Arms 'A' narrowly beat the Pool Club 'B' 7 - 5 at the Pool Club. The Golden Lion 'A' inflicted a 9 - 3 defeat on the Queens Hotel and the Croft managed an unconvincing 8 - 4 over the Golden Lion 'B'. With the Rugby Club and Pool Club 'A' winning 8 - 4 against the 3 Ferrets and British Legion respectively the league is now starting to take shape.
Performance of the Week : The Sheaf of Wheat
Thursday 26th Janurary 2006
Some really close games this week, no team won by more than 8 - 4, with the Cornish Arms 'B' having to win their last doubles to get a draw away at the Sheaf. The Halsetown lost narrowly to the 7 - 5 specialists the Cornish Arms 'A' and the Croft had to win all 4 doubles to narrowly beat the Howards 7 - 5. Lower down the League the Legion and the Lion 'A' swopped places in a closely fought 7 - 5 victory for the legion and the Ferrets lost their last 3 doubles to lose to the Pool Club 'B' 7-5. Stuart Trevorrow of the Halsetown lost for the second week running allowing the rest of the pack to catch him in the Most Singles wins competition with 5 of the top 7 players all winning. Simon 'Sky' Pollard had an 8 Ball clearance in the Rugby Clubs 8 - 4 win at the Engine helping them to a 6 - 2 lead after the singles.
Performance of the Week : British Legion
Thursday 19th Janurary 2006
An interesting week with some close games involving the top three teams, allowing the teams just behind to gain some ground. In a closely fought game the cornish Arms 'A' beat the Cornish Arms 'B' 7 - 5, and inflicted only their second defeat of the season. This being the second time that they have beaten them this season, it looks like the 'A' team are the 'B' teams bogey side, the halsetown Inn beat the 3 ferrets 7 - 5 with the Ferrets improving from the 12 - 0 defeat against the Halsetown on the first week of the season. The Croft and the Rugby Club played out a very competitive 6 - 6 draw at the Rugby Club splitting the singles 4 - 4 and the doubles 2 - 2, a very close game indeed. The other noteable result this week was the Pool Club 'B' winning 10 - 2 against the Engine Inn, which means they close up to 3 points behind The Croft in 4th place. Also played this week was the postponed game from before Xmas between the 3 Ferrets and Sheaf of Wheat, this was played at the Sheaf on Tuesday night and the Sheaf ran out 8 - 4 winners. Just a quick mention for our chairman Dirk Lengton who has now returned from his native Australia and managed to lose on his return, but at least the sheep can sleep easier now.
Performance of the Week : Cornish Arms 'A'
Thursday 12th Janurary 2006
Well things have certainly warmed up this week with the Rugby Club beating the Queen's Hotel 12 - 0, the Halsetown beating the Golden Lion 'B' 11 - 1 and the Cornish Arms 'B' winning 10 - 2 against the Howards Hotel. This is the last set of games before we turn around and reverse the fixtures for the second half of the season and the Cornish Arms 'B' sit at the top of the table with a 4 point lead over the Halsetown Inn in second and last years defending champions The Croft in 3rd another 3 points behind. If things continue like this it could come down to the last game of the season again when The Croft beat the Cornish Arms 'B' to win the title, but theres still a long way to go and anything can happen yet with some good teams bunching just behind the top three. A mention for Joe Jeavons of the Howards Hotel who beat Dave Hart of the Cornish Arms 'B' in the Howards 10 - 2 loss, this was only Dave's second loss for the season and leaves Stuart Trevorrow of the Halsetown Inn leading with 14 singles wins. Also Brian Ashwin of the Golden Lion 'B' who was the only winner for them in their 11 - 1 loss against the Halsetown Inn.
Performance of the Week : Joe Jeavons ( Howards Hotel )
Thursday 5th Janurary 2006
First game back after the Chrismas festivities and competition was as always intense with the Cornish 'B' , Rugby Club and Pool Club 'B' all scoring 9 - 3 wins. The most surprising was the Rugby Club's 9 - 3 win over the high flying Halsetown Inn with only seven players, and the Cornish 'B' resumed with an 8 Ball from Lewis Gaylord in the first singles game and another from Shane Eddy in the third. With the help of those two 8 Balls the Cornish 'B' are now 5 points clear at the top with the Croft taking advantage of the Halsetown's slip up and moving up to 3rd level on points with them after a good 8 - 4 win over the Ferrets who despite their poor league position do play some good pool. The Cornish 'A' and Reef Bar had a close game that ended up 6 - 6 with neither team managing to take the advantage and the Pool Club 'A' managed to lose 7 - 5 after going 4 - 0 up on the Engine Inn. Andy Collier of the Ferrets had a cracking game beating Richard Astle of the Croft and John Owen did well to be the only player from the British legion to win a singles game against the Cornish 'B'.
Performance of the Week : Rugby Club
